- Xbox 360 Elite launches Friday
- 360 remains €10 more expensive in Ireland
- Republic slightly cheaper then the North
Microsoft have said that it is to reduce its estimated retail price across Europe, but the console will remain €10 more expensive in Ireland compared to the “Euro” price, the move comes with the launch of the new Xbox 360 Elite on Friday.
The standard Xbox 360 should drop €50 in price the Republic, and £30 in the North. Games Toaster was previously told by Microsoft that the difference between the Euro price here and their “Euro” price used in most of the Eurozone was due to Ireland’s higher rate of tax.
The console will now be set at €359.99/ £249.99, making the system even more attractive then the PlayStation 3 at €629.99/ £425. While striped down ‘Core’ Xbox 360 will be to €279.99/£179.99.
The new ‘Xbox 360 Elite’ (pictured) for €459.99/£299.99 comes in black with a 120GB hard drive and a high-definition HDMI port. The company describes it as a “‘luxury’ option for seasoned gamers”. It also is bundled with a rechargeable battery pack and recharger.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer Xbox 360 at a new, lower estimated retail price,” said Orla Sheridan, country manager, entertainment and devices division at Microsoft Ireland. “First-timers will love the Xbox 360 Core system, which offers an affordable entry into high-definition gaming. The Xbox 360, with its large hard drive and wireless controller, will appeal to casual and experienced gamers and families”.
